Flows really well once melted. This one strikes in the flame to give bright blue whisps but can be kiln struck to get a deeper color mixture. All of this keeps it's dark purple base.
Lunar Glass Silver Grayish Purple is a silver-rich, moody color that lives in the space between smoky graphite and stormy violet, with flashes of deep wine depending on how you work it. It can read as a clean, translucent purple in a neutral flame, then deepen into darker, shadowy tones with gentle reduction and heat-cycling—often showing subtle movement and banding that gives finished work a “cosmic” depth.
What you’ll see
- Color range: soft gray-lavender → rich violet → inky plum/wine with smoky undertones
- Depth & variation: silver content creates natural shading and layered tones rather than a flat, uniform purple
- Finish: can stay glossy and transparent, or lean darker and more dramatic with heavier heatwork/reduction
Working character
- Neutral flame keeps it brighter and cleaner.
- Light reduction can pull out deeper purples and add shadowy, metallic-leaning undertones (too much reduction may darken it quickly).
- Heat-cycling (warm, cool, reheat) helps build complexity—bringing out richer violets and that “storm cloud” dimension.
Great for
- Sculptural work where the natural shading adds form and contrast
- Stringer/linework for gradients and dramatic outlines
- Encasement to amplify the smoky-purple depth and create a layered, spacey look
